Novice LL West Grey Warriors have been working very hard
over the past couple of months thanks to their great coaching staff. On Sunday, January 22nd the team faced off against the South Bruce Blades in Ayton. Both teams did not want to give up that first goal but with 45 seconds left in the first period Carson Leith put the Warriors on the board with the game’s first goal.
Half way through the second period the Warriors were left shorthanded
but the team’s forward and defensive lines kept the Blades off the scoreboard. Dylan
Rutherford was kept busy in net but the Blades couldn’t seem to figure him out.
With two minutes left in the second period Carson took a shot on net and Jasper
Toldness knocked the rebound in for his first goal of the season putting the
Warriors ahead 2-0.
Going into the third period the Warriors pushed hard to keep
the Blades off the scoreboard. With 6 minutes left to go in the period the
Blades pushed one by Dylan to make the score 2-1. The Warriors fought hard the
remaining minutes of the game with many scoring chances for both teams. The
fans held their breath as the clock counted down the remaining seconds of the
game. The team’s hard work finally paid off with a 2-1 win over the South Bruce
Blades. A great way to carry them into their Tournament in Durham this weekend.
